After hours of speculation in the BJP arena finally, they came up with the name who will become the next CM of Uttar Pradesh.  On March 18, 2016 the name was announced and it was Yogi Adityanath who was chosen as the next CM of the state. The announcement contradicted a no. of media reports and it was an astonishing announcement by the ruling party.

Yogi Adityanath, an Indian priest and politician holding a strong ‘Hindutva’ ideology been known for his controversial remarks and provocative speeches, protests across the state. He is 44 years old and five-time Mp from Gorakhpur. One cannot ignore his oratory and leadership qualities. He has a strong hold on Hindu voters.

After sworn as the CM of the state, Yogi Adityanath in his oath speech on Sunday, March 19 said that his government will not indulge in any kind of discrimination among people and will work for “sabka sath, sabka vikas”.  This statement contradicts the support he showed to Donald Trump’s travel ban for certain Muslim countries. He said, “Similar action is needed to contain terror activities in this country.”

Apart from this, he has also got a track record of been involved in a no. of riots and protests. A no. of cases has been registered against him. When the intolerance debate was in the air, he remarked Shahrukh khan to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed. He had said,”Shah Rukh Khan should remember that majority population of the country made him the star, and if they boycott his films, he will also have to wander on streets. It is unfortunate SRK is speaking the same language that of Hafiz

Even though is name has come up into the bad light, there are reports that mention that people in Gorakhpur especially around the Gorakhnath Mutt, hold him in respect. Even Muslims around the temple is given protection by Yogi.

Belonging to a Rajput family, holding a Bachelor’s degree in science from Uttrakhand, having great leadership and oratory skills, being chosen as the MP for 5 consecutive terms, we need to wait and see how he leads the state of Uttar Pradesh in opposition to his past remarks and towards the path of development.
